redefining strength w/ Dee Williams

“What is strength? Is it stronger to stay in a difficult situation or within a system that doesn’t work for you, or is it stronger to leave and make that choice to find something better?” This is just one of the questions grappled with this week's FIA guest and Founder of Yoga Kinship, Dee Williams.

Dee is a certified yoga and meditation instructor, mother and educator. She has been practicing yoga for several years but felt particularly driven during the pandemic to leave her role as a school teacher to provide healing, accessible and inclusive yoga to communities often overlooked and under-served.

Dee tells us, “‘When I speak to people, they say yoga isn’t my thing!’ But when I poke further, I discover that most people have a very specific idea and image about what yoga is and what a yoga body looks like.” She asks us to get those images out of our heads!

Dee challenges the idea of a “zen yogi.” She is unafraid to talk about all the ugly parts of life’s journey that enable us to truly know ourselves, stretching and strengthening both our bodies and minds. With quotes that will make you cry and laugh at the same time, like “We can all be healed. We’re all a mess!” Press play and enjoy the next 40 minutes. Namaste.
